Billy Yamaguchi has developed a series of salons that offer unsurpassed services in luxurious settings. With California locations in Ventura, La Quinta Resort & Spa in La Quinta, Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, the salons truly exemplify the holistic principles that guide his vision of beauty. More than ten years ago, Billy began his study of Feng Shui and a quest to wed this philosophy to his training in the Western tradition of hair design. He soon discovered there was no existing method of integrating these disciplines and he devoted himself to combining the elements into an entirely innovative approach to beauty and harmony.
During the course of his eighteen- year career, Billy has participated in countless fashion shows, photo and make-up shoots and television commercials. He is one of the spokespersons for Schwarzkopf, Inc., a renowned hair colour manufacturer, and he has conducted educational classes throughout the United States and abroad. Leading seminars and workshops throughout Europe, Asia, South America, North America, and South Africa, Billy has brought the fundamentals of hair artistry and the Feng Shui principles as they are applied to beauty to a worldwide community of stylists. Closer to home, Billy established the Yamaguchi Academy where he and his wife, Melissa Chambers Yamaguchi, teach the Art of Feng Shui in Beauty. Billy is the author of Yamaguchi Feng Shui: The Art & Science of Color Formulation for the salon professionals and the newly released Billy Yamaguchi Feng Shui Beauty which is available in book stores and online.
Billy’s work has been featured in trade magazines such as Passion, (Tokyo and Paris), Top Hair, Tonsorrial, Peluquerias and Coiffure de Paris as well as mainstream beauty and fashion publications-Vogue, W, Glamour , UK Glamour Allure and the Scotsman. Recognized as a “Holistic Hair Artist” by Town and Country and as a “Feng Shui Artist” by Bridge Magazine, USA, his work as also been showcased in Salon Today, Modern Salon, American Salon, and Hairspa. and The Scotsman. Billy has made numerous appearances on national and international television shows-ABC News, KCAL News, CBS News, CNN, KNBC, E! Entertainment, Style Network, Behind the Scenes on Showtime, Rikki Lake, Life Time Channel’s New Attitudes, Fuji TV , Early Morning Show on Tokyo TV, CBS Early Morning Show, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and Dr. Phil Show.
Melissa Chambers Yamaguchi opened Yamaguchi Salon & Coastal Day Spa (YS&CDS) with her husband, Billy Yamaguchi, in October 1992. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest day spas in the United States, the company has received worldwide attention as an industry leader in the salon and spa business. Melissa has received substantial recognition for her innovations in day spas and for her creative, effective skills in operating spas and salons. Yamaguchi was the first in the beauty and spa industry to adapt Feng Shui to services, products, and seminars at the Yamaguchi Academy and for the industry.
Melissa designed the interior of the 5200 square foot YS&CDS utilizing Feng Shui principles. Since completion, the salon has been selected for design excellence and has been featured in trade magazines as Salon of the Month as well as having been recognized in consumer magazines. The other Yamaguchi salons are designed by Feng Shui at the La Quinta Resort & Spa as well as Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles and La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Melissa spearheaded the development of the Yamaguchi Spa Therapy line of spa products. These luxurious products are made of the finest essential oils and botanical ingredients. The line includes 15 unique products and 5 distinct aromatherapy scents. Her professional spa products, in particular the Green Tea Body line, are used in top spas throughout the United States. Chopsticks, a cherry-scented baby line of products, was launched in 2001.
Melissa served as the first President of PBA (The Professional Beauty Association) and the first female president of TSA (The Salon Association). During her tenure as president, she guided the merge of salon distributors, manufacturers, and salon owners into The Professional Beauty Association. She has been interviewed several times for the Masters Tapes and delivers the monthly Homeplay for the Tapes, received the “Spirit of Noel” Award and has been interviewed by numerous consumer and trade publications, including American Salon, Spa Magazine, DAYSPA, Better Homes & Gardens, Vogue and W. Melissa has spoken at educational seminars internationally in the Philippines, South Africa, and Canada, as well as nationally in Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Grand Rapids, Las Vegas and North Carolina. She served as co-host of the 1998 North American Hairstyling Awards ceremony in Las Vegas and was Master of Ceremonies for Serious Business Seminar 2005 in New Orleans. She has twice served as a judge on the Global Best Foundation Entrepreneurial Leadership Event sponsored by The Anderson School of Business at UCLA. She has presented Feng Shui for Business leaders in the United States. Hired by varied organizations, Melissa is an accomplished motivational speaker on Feng Shui and Energy in Business and Lifestyles and has received acclaim for her dynamic and humorous delivery. Melissa’s mission is to teach people about energy and choices-“People need to own their lives.”
Melissa is actively involved in her community and has made presentations to local business organizations, schools, and churches. She was recognized as a leader in the Advancement of Women in Business. She is involved in advancing the salon and spa industry and encouraging a greater focus on overall client wellness and utilizing spa services as a step towards preventative medicine. She takes a pragmatic approach of wedding innovative ideas to practical operational applications.
Melissa is the mother of two beautiful children, daughter Seiji and son Nobu.

Tyler Design, LLC
Founder Chris Tyler has over thirty years experience in a variety of roles including project architect and design architect. Mr. Tyler’s expertise and focus is on site planning, concept and schematic design for large international hospitality projects. He has extensive experience on-site with residential, golf, resort, and community development projects. Notable projects Mr. Tyler has been part of include: the Alvadora Spa at the Royal Palms Hotel; the Spa at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park; Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa; The Peninsula at Hawaii Kai; and ANA Hotel and Condominiums in Jakarta, Indonesia, among others. Prior to founding Tyler Design, Mr. Tyler was with Oz Architects, in Scottsdale, Arizona, and spent several years with Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo, the leading luxury resort design architecture firm worldwide.
