Editor's Note - Fast Forward
WHERE DO YOU THINK THE: FUTURE OF OUR INDUSTRY IS HEADED, and what do you think is its biggest detriment? That's tbe question I posed to a variety of industry experts whose answers, and insight you can find on page 22. Deborah Szekely, founder of the destination spas Rancho la Puerta and Golden Door, envisions a future in which spas are seen as an alternative to hospitals. "We could have a parallel number of destination spas to a parallel number of hospitals because prevention is key," she says. For Cary Collier, principal of Collier & Collier Spas and Blu Spas, the future of spas from a design perspective involves simplicity and setting an example with a natural, healthy spa environment that "uses principles that are proven to respect aesthetic harmony and sustainability.” Hannelore Leavy founder of The Day Spa Association, sees the impact of big business coming in via mergers and buyouts. And speaking of big business, this month, columnist Lenny LaCour addresses when to raise your treatment prices. What better way to begin the New year?
